"Diverse Artistry Of Malaysia"
Author:Lewis Segal Date Published: June 23, 2003 Date Accessed: December 9, 2012
Summary of the Article
This article focuses not on the typical bubblegum dance pageantry that Malaysia is known for throughout the years, but rather, the forms of Islam that are arising throughout SE Asia. These Islamic beliefs are shown through a wide variety. Depicted through their cultures and belief systems, Malaysia is definitely embracing the differences within their country.
Thoughts, Emotions, and Observations about the Article
This article was a very interesting read. Malaysia strayed from their typical pageantry, and they brought out the growing Islamic culture within Malaysia. The words, "teaching America a lesson", also correlate with "Malaysia: Truly Asia", I believe this is trying to symbolize the way Malaysia is embracing their melting pot of cultures, although it isn't as diverse as America's. Also, it swayed away from the idea of Malaysia's women being typical and feminine.
How This Relates to Culture
Malaysia is completely different from the Islamic beliefs and morales. I believe that if different cultures began to understand and communicate with each other in more peaceful ways, like Malaysia did with the Islamic culture! If other countries responded the same way that Malaysia did, we would not have as much culture clashes as we do, that usually lead up to violence.
