Author: 'Jasfalon' Date Published: 22 Jan 2013 Date Accessed: 1/23/13
Summary of the Article
During its mining contract, the head of Barrick Gold’s (the world's largest gold producer) operation has said that the Dominican Republic will receive an estimated amount of $11.0 billion. This prediction is based on the current gold prices of the company. However, there are good intentions, but bad outcomes said CEO Manuel Rocha.
Thoughts, Emotions, and Observations about the Article
This article was strange to read. During the gold operation by the Barrick Gold Co., many jobs were created for miners, investments were made (illegally perhaps), and yet nothing can be legitimately confirmed by those who run the company! Bamboozlement!
How This Relates to Politics
This article goes to show that money can not fix everything within a government. Although, the Dominican Republic is receiving money for the gold extractions, there has been numerous environmental problems caused from this extraction. However, 11,000 direct jobs were developed during the mining and the construction, which has undoubtedly helped many citizens. Hopefully, the money that the Dominican Republic will be receiving shall be used to build roads, educations, railroads, and sea exports to further the productivity of their country.
